Why did breeding Alolan Vulpix result in normal Vulpix?

So when I traded an alolan vulpix from shield to my brother's sword game he had me breed it and I got an alolan vulpix. I tried to breed it in shield but got a normal vulpix. Then when I traded it back to sword, I got a normal vulpix. Why? (By the way I had the dlc in shield but not in sword).

When Breeding regional variants, Pokemon will always take the form of the the region its currently in. Which is why you keep getting normal Vulpix, because You aren't in Alola. If you have a female Alolan Vulpix, or you breed with a Ditto, have your Alolan Vulpix hold the everstone and it should retain its form.

Now that I think about it it was holding an everstone the first time but not the other times.
